The former Jillian’s at the Metreon, which reopened as Tabletop Tap House this May (with an emphasis on arcade and board games), isn’t likely to win accolades from those who’ve spilled beer cheering on the Giants, Niners, Sharks, and Warriors at neighborhood spots like Kezar, Mad Dog in the Fog, or the Double Play. But this SoMa joint has something going for it that those old warhorses never will: space. As in seating for 650, plus a 50-foot projector and 28 screens. Which means that when it comes to packing it in for a big game, no one does it bigger. Bonus points for being one of a distressingly few joints in town to show boxing and MMA fights.

Just hosted a meetup at the TableTop Tap House (formerly Jillian’s). If you’re looking for a private event venue that won’t break the bank, with a friendly and professional team, this is a hidden gem. It was perfect for our meetup. We needed an open space to mingle and then about 50 chairs for a panel discussion. They can fit up to 80. There is also a side room that you can potentially ask to expand into, though for our event flow most people didn’t venture over. They did a great job on the remodel and elegant touches, mixed in with fun amenities such as foosball and pool table which helped with breaking the ice. The food was solid before but seems like it also got elevated on the remodel. Sill down to earth but tastier. Can’t give enough props to Jennifer on their events team who was super accommodating and worked with our budget, and Reuben, their manager and his team.

To Kill time between local train schedule, stopped for a beer at the tabletop. What a beautiful discovery! We were there as they opened and greeted by the host. He helped us to quickly realize that this spot is big with many amenities (sports watching Mecca and pool tables!) and a great representation on local brews on tap. Feeling nostalgic, I had an Anchor Steam but they carry Fort point, Fieldworks and I learned that Ballast Point is now in the ‘hood. Shout ours to Lisa, our bartender! She is knowledgeable about local area and beers and sweet as pie, too! And she knows how to sin her “way to San Jose”. Look forward to coming back!
